On May 29, 1971, Haystack Calhoun and Bearcat Wright, who between them total over 900 pounds, defeated Maddog Mayne and Ripper Collins in last night's wrestling main event at the Civic Auditorium. Hawaiian Tag Team Championship Match
With one fall each, Mayne and Collins were disqualified for hitting the referee. Collins and Maddog retained their championship belts because a title can't change hands by disqualification. Haystack Calhoun greets his many young fans on his way to the ring. Calhoun about to land a haymaker on Maddog Mayne to free partner Bearcat. Mayne and Collins double team Haystack in the corner as referee Wally tries to intervene. Bearcat stands on Haystack's back as they crush Collins and Mayne in a human sandwich. Ripper Collins and Maddog Mayne work over Haystack Calhoun next to a knocked out referee Wally Tsutsumi. Haystack "splashes" Maddog Mayne next to Ripper Collins, who lies motionless on the mat. |
Billy Robinson vs Angelo Mosca
In prelim bouts, Bill Robinson took two out of three falls from Angelo Mosca. Also, The Gladiator and The Avenger battled to a draw. Sam Steamboat topped The Skull in two out of three falls and Don Muraco and Rocky Montero went to a draw. Billy Robinson about to pounce on a ropes entangled Angelo Mosca. Robinson's mighty elbow sends a stunned Mosca into the ropes. Mosca lifts Robinson up over his head in an attempt to free himself from the headlock. The Gladiator vs The Avenger Rocky Montero enters the ring and confronts the Gladiator. Sam Steamboat vs The Skull Steamboat dishes out a vicious blow to a stunned Skull. Rocky Montero vs Don Muraco Rocky Montero barely avoids Muraco's athletic drop kick to gain the advantage. |
